Set Free to Praise God

April 6, 2010

Mar was ashamed because of a decision she had made in her youth.

She thought that if she confided her concerns to even her spouse…he might turn away from her. Yet the experiences of what she calls evil presence and unusual manifestations in her life were real….and she thought it had everything to do with her grandmother who wasn’t a follower of Jesus and dedicated to the occult group when she was a child.

M. had since renounced that past, and had aligned herself with Christianity and what her minister parents had thought her. Yet, as a young adult yearning to be loved, she impulsively consulted a medium, and that decision re-opened the door to the occult influences in her life.

A few years ago, she remembered that particular incident, and decided that she needed people to help dedicate her heart and her home to Jesus. She followed the principles of James 5:14, and indeed the elders or pastors came and prayed for her.

Just the other day, she felt that there was still a lack of peace that held her back…and how could she possibly tell people about these supernatural occurances that remained in her life?

She bravely came to House of Prayer Experience to share her story and ask for help. Her membership wasn’t even at this church, yet she felt at home enough, so she took a leap of faith….She almost didn’t go through with it. And then, she was glad she had come to H.o.P.E.

She felt overwhelmed by the wave of support she received. She had feared people’s judgement, but instead encountered a Spirit of grace and acceptance and …most importantly…experienced their caring prayers. Shame no longer holds her back. That last stronghold is gone. She joined in singing God’s praise as the hour ended.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
-1Peter 2:10

Your Prayers Make a Difference

November 4, 2009

Robert and Maureen have been involved at Forest Lake Church and lending their support to the church’s mission to teach the Word of God, Lead people to Jesus and Help others to do the same, for at least a year now. All this before becoming actual members of the church! One of their commitments has been to regularly attend mid-week prayer meetings.

While at work earlier this week, Robert saw a woman who looked vaguely familiar and they began talking.

Robert remembered where he had seen the woman who was now introducing herself as Carmen. A couple of months ago, Carmen and her three children had been invited to the Wednesday night meeting by someone who didn’t attend Forest Lake Church, but this person had heard that there was a church where people prayed for others. Carmen’s husband, Byron had had a severe stroke that had left him paralyzed and unable to communicate. Byron was the recipient of the prayers for healing and prayer quilt that night, while his wife and children stood amazed and touched by the outpour of support from total strangers.

As she realized Robert’s connection to the Forest Lake Church, Carmen became excited about the opportunity to talk about the prayer meeting. She expressed to Robert that Byron had improved and wanted to come to H.o.P.E ! He had been wishing to thank the prayer warriors himself, and mostly, he was eager to have the opportunity to publicly give God praise for his progress. Robert and Maureen arranged for Byron to come along with his wife Carmen that same week on Wednesday night.

Byron did come on his wheelchair with his wife at his side. He spoke into the microphone with all the strength he could muster. His presence on Wednesday night spoke volume as we realized that we may not always know how our prayers affect people. Sometimes, God allows for a glimpse into a life of someone who knows first hand the difference prayers make!

Thank you, people of H.o.P.E.
