Faith and Doubt: I believe, help my unbelief!

February 24, 2010

Luis’ heart broke when he heard the sermon on Hannah’s Prayer*. His heart also leaped with hope and faith ever since, because He was reminded that God answers prayers and watches over parents and their children. Luis had a strong impression that he needed to present his son for special prayer and he came to the House of Prayer on behalf of his twenty-something year old child.

Two thousand years or more separate him from the life of another dad who came to Jesus pleading on behalf of his boy. This father from the report found in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 9 said to Jesus: “I believe! Help my unbelief!” (verse 24)

When our faith is weak and that is all we have, God meets us more than half way. We can confess our struggle to believe and shift our focus on His power and goodness. “I’m happy because my son is in God’s hands,” Luis said as parents joined him in prayer for their children.

*Another version of the Sermon on Hannah’s Prayer was also preached HERE, at the Forest Lake Church’s 4th Service (Young Adults).
